ABOUT US
Situated in the heart of Dalston we continually work towards curating a space that connects The Street to The Gallery, a gallery space galvanised!
Born in 2015 out of a disused black basement with the aim of gaining recognition for emerging talent, the gallery has steadily expanded its reach and diversified its projects, gaining a reputation as a platform that now showcases some of the finest emerging and established UK-based and global artists. Through our active exhibition program we have consistently pushed the boundaries, contributing to the cultural enrichment of East London and solidifying the merit and talent of the diverse roster of Artists we represent across Urban and Contemporary art.
We are now ‘ground floor’ but our goals as a gallery remain the same: the support and development of emerging and established artists, to use the gallery to support causes we believe in and to allow the gallery to be a place to create as well as to exhibit. Our roots in the subcultures of Graffiti and Urban Art have ensured we continue to produce authentic exhibitions offering audiences an alternative and refreshing view of the Art World.
HIRE OUR SPACE
BSMT has been host to an array of creative and alternative events, prioritising the support of people in their creative/business endeavours, allowing the freedom for these projects to be realised.
Our gallery is located on the street level of the busy Kingsland Rd in Dalston. A bright and spacious ground floor space spread across three areas with high ceilings and an internal skylight, a licensed bar, a large shop window, chairs and tables as well as sound and projector equipment. We also offer bathroom facilities, high-speed fibre broadband and bespoke framing services through our in-house framing studio.
BSMT would like to keep contributing to Dalston's repertoire as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Europe. Our gallery is available for all manner of events, to hire our space please get in touch.
COLLABORATIONS AND SUBMISSIONS
Our dynamic team at BSMT is able to assist with a variety of projects from facilitating artists for murals or commissions to consulting with designers and clients on acquisitions for businesses, hotels, interiors or retail. Whatever the vision, it is possible to make it happen.
If you are an artist looking to work with the gallery we encourage you to establish whether your style of work fits with the gallery remit before emailing, it might be great work but we may not be the right space to show it.
Submissions are preferable via email (over walk-in), please include some clear examples of your work and a little bit about yourself and your practice. While we endeavour to reply to all enquiries our busy gallery schedule does not always make this possible. We do our best to ensure we continue to showcase emerging art, a lot of the decision making around this happens internally but we do sporadically run open calls, please keep an eye out on our socials for announcements.
